IMCA and it's Importance in the Diving Industry

The International Marine Contractors Association (IMCA) has been instrumental in setting the standards for safety, performance, and sustainability in the diving industry. Since its inception, IMCA has been committed to improving practices and protocols for marine contracting operations, enabling its members and the wider offshore sector to work to the highest standards. Central to its contributions is the Technical Library, which houses approximately 230 guidance documents and 250 information notes. This extensive repository covers a wide range of offshore operations, including diving, marine activities, remote operations, and offshore surveys, providing professionals with the tools to maintain safety and operational excellence globally.

Safety is a core focus, supported by Safety Flashes shared biweekly with nearly 10,000 professionals and over 1,600 vessel inspections conducted in 2023 through its ECMID programme. These initiatives promote a culture of continuous safety improvement and proactive risk management. IMCA also drives professional development through Continuous Professional Development (CPD) programmes and the popular Diving CPD App, ensuring industry professionals remain up-to-date.

Collaboration is central to IMCA’s work. It partners with global organizations like the International Maritime Organization (IMO) and supports the Diving Medical Advisory Committee (DMAC) to advance safety and influence regulatory frameworks. IMCA also champions sustainability through initiatives like ProjectGHG, which helps reduce vessel emissions.

IMCA’s leadership, spanning technical guidance, advocacy, and sustainability efforts, makes it indispensable to the diving industry, ensuring that members thrive in a challenging and evolving offshore environment.

As a proud member of the International Marine Contractors Association (IMCA), SMP aligns its diving solutions with the highest industry standards. IMCA’s dedication to improving safety, performance, and sustainability in the marine contracting sector provides invaluable support to its members, including access to its extensive Technical Library, which houses over 230 guidance documents and 250 information notes. This repository equips SMP with the knowledge and tools needed to ensure its operations meet global best practices for safety and operational excellence.

By partnering with IMCA, SMP strengthens its ability to deliver innovative, safe, and sustainable solutions, cementing its reputation as a leader in the diving industry.
