Underwater thickness gauge is currently in stock at SMP and ready for shipping. This equipment is designed to measure the thickness of a structure and is often used for subsea maintenance and surveys.

The gauge works with a pulse-echo system. The probe transmits a very short pulse of ultrasound which enters the test piece. The probe then listens for the echoes and converts them into electrical signals. These signals are used to produce timing information that can then be used to determine material thickness. The measurements can be displayed in millimetres or inches, which are shown on the LED display.

The underwater thickness gauge is fully waterproof to a rating of IP68 and is pressure rated to a depth of 300 metres. The system is powered by rechargeable NiMH battery pack, each battery pack lasting an estimated 20 hours of continuous measuring. The system weighs 977g, including batteries, and has been built with a rugged, durable, shock-proof construction.

The basic kit comes with underwater gauge body, lanyard, two rechargeable batteries, battery charger with leads, underwater probe with lead, membrane couplant, and a selection of accessories. These accessories include spare O-rings, spare membranes, membrane locking ring key, 15mm test block, torque bar, and calibration jumper lead.
