US Doctors using Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy to help treat Long Covid
Doctors in the US are using Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy to help treat those suffering with Long Covid. UK health workers describe long Covid as symptoms which continue for longer then 12 weeks after an infection.

These symptoms can include:

  • Extreme fatigue
  • Chest pains, heart palpitations, or shortness of breath
  • Problems concentrating and trouble remembering
  • Changes to taste and smell
  • Joint pain
Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy is already used in the US to help treat a number of FDA approved indications. And now they are being used to help treat Long Covid.

The treatment involves patients spending a number of hours in a 100% oxygen atmosphere in a sealed chamber. Patients breathe in pure oxygen instead of the much lower 21% found in normal air whilst the pressure increases the amount of oxygen that is dissolved into the bloodstream. This increases the speed of the healing process.
