Position: Design Engineer

Description:

SMP is a company which is growing at pace; the products are varied and the work challenging.  Due to this continued growth an exciting opportunity has arisen for a Design Engineer based in Preston, joining this rapidly evolving and vibrant company. Reporting to the Design Engineering Manager you will develop close ties with our Sales Department to quickly turn around concept drawings and P&ID’s that our clients require before sales confirmation.  You will be required at times to travel to the client’s premises to discuss their requirements.  We are looking for a forward thinker with excellent people skills and the ability to communicate in presentations and 1 to one formats.

Qualifications:

  • Qualified / Bachelor of Engineering [BEng].
  • Full, Clean UK Diving Licence

 

Experience: 

Minimum 5 years’ Design Engineer experience.

Skills:

  • Experience in the Marine, Offshore or Subsea industry is highly desirable.
  • Would benefit in electrical knowledge 3ph 415V, 1ph 230V and VDC Control.
  • Significant experience in the design and development of products from conception through to completion (preferably within the Marine Sub Sea industry).
  • Extensive knowledge of working with Autodesk Vault, AutoCAD 2D & Inventor 3D. (FEA experience would be an advantage / other packages considered).
  • Extensive Knowledge and experience with Bill of Materials (B.O.M’s) development, sourcing and creation.
  • Strong knowledge of pressure, air, hydraulic, instrumentation, material process, fabrication, welding, sheet metal and material properties.
  • Strong aptitude in Process flows.
  • Experience mentoring junior team members.
  • Experience commissioning, testing, validating and documenting processes.
  • Experience using MS Project, Excel and Word.
  • Be inventive, practical and results focused.
  • Strong work ethic (staying until the job is done).
  • Strong problem solving and troubleshooting skills.
  • Report writing and thorough documentation skills.
  • Excellent communication skills; high level of verbal and written English.
  • The ability to work to tight timescales in a challenging environment.
  • Plenty of drive, energy and determination.
  • Ability to use own initiative.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.

 

Hours of Work:

Monday to Friday 08:00 hrs to 17:00 hrs

Permanent position, based at our Preston facility

Overseas work as and when required

Overtime work as and when required

Wage:

Competitive / Subject to experience and knowledge.
