Description

The Hyperbaric Lifeboat (HLB) is a specialized, self-propelled vessel designed for life-saving operations involving divers in hyperbaric environments. Built for durability and endurance, this advanced lifeboat is constructed with fire-retardant Glass fibre Reinforced Polyester (GRP) for enhanced safety, ensuring reliable performance in the most challenging marine rescue situations. The HLB’s compact, enclosed design can securely accommodate up to 12 divers in its hyperbaric chamber, along with 4 crew members including life-support technicians.

Equipped with a Bukh-Steyr SOLAS 144 marine diesel engine, the HLB reaches speeds of over 6 knots, even under full load. It features an advanced, closed-loop cooling system and external fire-protection water spray to safeguard the vessel and occupants. The lifeboat’s integrated buoyancy tanks and foam-filled compartments provide self-righting capabilities, even if the hull sustains damage. Built for 72 hours of continuous operation, the HLB includes all necessary life-support supplies for extended rescue missions.

Outfitted with essential safety features, the HLB includes marine communication systems (VHF, SART, EPIRB, and more), navigational lighting, adjustable safety harnesses, and compressed air supply. Certified under SOLAS standards, the Hyperbaric Lifeboat by Submarine Manufacturing & Products Ltd sets a high standard for hyperbaric rescue, combining advanced engineering, operational endurance, and robust safety.

Construction: Built with Glass fibre Reinforced Polyester (GRP) and fire-retardant additives for durability and enhanced safety, the HLB features a totally enclosed superstructure with an aft steering tower. The hull’s round-bilge design ensures maximum stability, while integrated buoyancy tanks and additional foam-filled compartments provide self-righting capability, even under significant hull damage.

Engine and Performance: Powered by a Bukh-Steyr SOLAS 144 marine diesel engine (106 kW / 144 HP at 3800 RPM), this lifeboat achieves speeds of over 6 knots, even when fully loaded and operating the onboard water spray system. A thermostatically controlled freshwater cooling system ensures the engine maintains optimal performance.

Endurance: Built for 72 hours of continuous operation, the lifeboat’s onboard systems, fuel tank, food, and water supplies support extended missions.

Safety and Outfitting:

Emergency Preparedness: Equipped with adjustable 4-point safety harnesses for each crew member, food rations, drinking water provisions, and comprehensive SOLAS-required safety equipment.

Electrical Systems: Operates on a 24V DC system with an engine-driven alternator (28.8V / 90 Amp), 6 batteries (12V - 105 Ah each), and a 12V battery charger for system reliability. Interior and navigation lighting, a searchlight, and a compass light ensure visibility in all conditions.

Communication: Includes marine VHF, radar reflector, SART, EPIRB, and strobe light for enhanced visibility and rescue signalling.

Fire Protection: An advanced water spray system with stainless steel tubing and spray nozzles delivers comprehensive external fire protection. Additionally, an onboard compressed air system supplies fresh breathing air and engine combustion air, ensuring up to 10 minutes of air supply in “closed down” mode.

Certification: The HLB is certified under SOLAS standards by DNV or LRS, ensuring compliance with global maritime safety requirements.
